💥Latest: Parity announced that it will officially start migrating @Polkadot relay chain functions to Assets Hub in mid-August! Less than 3 months until @paritytech pulls off one of the craziest moves in blockchain history on Polkadot!
But wait, why is Polkadot doing this? 🤔
Because Polkadot's multi-chain architecture brings many challenges to applications and integration partners, especially the lack of a one-stop integration solution.
For example, assets such as USDT/USDC are currently hosted in the Asset Hub, while the staking function still runs on the relay chain, which means that services such as wallets, tools, and exchanges need to connect to the interfaces of different chains respectively, increasing development and maintenance costs.
This migration aims to address this pain point and bring significant improvements to ecosystem partners and end users:
1⃣ Unified access: Most services (such as wallets, staking, and governance dashboards) only need to be connected to the Asset Hub without having to connect to the relay chain separately (some exceptions include Coretime and identity functions).
2⃣Significantly lower the threshold: the existential deposit is reduced from 1 DOT to 0.01 DOT, and the transaction fee is reduced by more than 10 times.
3⃣ Rich asset support: Asset Hub supports more ecological assets (such as USDT, USDC and other tokens), and users can pay fees with any assets.
4⃣ Optimized experience: unified access to DOT, assets, staking and governance functions, and direct connection to Ethereum and other ecosystems through trust-minimized bridges.
5⃣Building the foundation of JAM: After the migration, a transaction-free relay chain will be realized, paving the way for the future JAM architecture.
