“Hooked” is a book that changes the way we look at products, designs, or content.

I read the book, so I thought I would share it with you. 🙂

We usually think of good design as something beautiful.

But this book clearly shows that good design is an experience that people want to use again and again without thinking.

The main strength of this book is in a framework:

Trigger → Action → Variable Reward → Investment → (again Trigger)

It's not just a loop, it's a habit system.

👉 Trigger: Any feeling or signal - which starts the action
👉 Action: The easiest thing to do - which you don't have to think about
👉 Variable Reward: Uncertain result - which increases curiosity and interest
👉 Investment: User's time, effort, data - which makes them more involved

The most important part here,
After Investment, the loop starts again, but this time the trigger often comes from within (internal trigger).

As a result, the user returns on his own, which is the habit.

This book makes one thing very clear:
People do not get addicted to a product,
They get addicted to fix their own feelings.

When,
Someone scrolls when bored.
Someone messages when lonely.
Someone searches when confused.

Then they are not using any feature,
They are looking for a solution to their mental state.

This is the real place for design.

This book teaches
👉 How human behavior works
👉 Why some things are used repeatedly
👉 How simple ideas become habits
👉 And how a product goes from “optional” to “necessary”

For those who work in the sectors of design, UI/UX, content, and product,
This is not just a book, it is a thinking framework.
Those who have not read the book yet can read it.
