After Old Dog glanced over,
$BABA is currently quoting 127.67000, up 3.898% in the last 24 hours; vol recorded 10862667.9919. The move is eye-catching, but what really made me pause is that the funding rate is still 0.00000000. Price has moved first, yet the perpetual side hasn’t shown any obvious fee bias.
First, get the direction straight: if funding is greater than 0, longs pay shorts—meaning longs are more crowded; if funding is less than 0, shorts pay longs, which can be fertile ground for a squeeze.
$BABA is right at zero right now—there’s no real long crowding, and you can’t force-fit a short squeeze story. The OI reading is 59811.29, but there’s no prior value in the input, so I won’t invent an OI increase/decrease from a single snapshot. For now, I can only confirm that both price and trading activity are picking up; whether leveraged capital continues to follow still depends on how the subsequent OI readings line up. If price keeps rising, OI increases in sync, and funding turns positive, then chasing longs starts to accumulate; during pullbacks, it’s easier to trigger a chain of de-leveraging. If price rises but OI falls, it looks more like older positions are being covered, and the persistence is weaker.
My pivot is at 127.67000. If it falls back and loses that level and can’t quickly reclaim it, I’ll cut down to a light position and won’t fight the volatility. If it regains and holds above 127.67000, and I also see OI higher than the current 59811.29, then I’ll consider adding. If funding clearly turns positive but price still can’t push higher, I’ll stop adding and even look for potential counter-opportunities. The market often directly treats a one-day jump of 3.898% as a trend start; I’m not in a hurry to agree. Zero funding suggests crowding hasn’t spun out of control yet, while the lack of OI increase also implies the breakout hasn’t truly been confirmed. My stance is very clear right now: observe with a light position and wait until price, OI, and funding all move in the same direction.
Old Dog used to love seeing a single bullish candle and would rush in early. Last time it got stuck at the highs and I couldn’t reduce even if I wanted to. This time I’ll let the data speak first.
