The wallet says “encryption successful”—does that mean old pages on disk have definitely been wiped clean? Bitcoin Core’s PR
#36793 discusses an easy-to-overlook edge case: after the encrypted key records are written successfully, database rewriting may still fail, leaving old plaintext material on unused pages. The proposal preserves the successful encryption result while recording a cleanup warning, and recommends moving funds to a newly created wallet before relying on at-rest encryption for protection. In my view, security operation receipts should distinguish between “the main operation completed” and “follow-up cleanup completed,” so users know exactly how far the protection extends. This is a code change under review, and should not be taken to mean that all wallets currently in use behave the same way.
