Tesla CEO Elon Musk just announced that "You can now buy a Tesla with Bitcoin."

In a series of tweets, Musk added that the world's most valuable automotive company will retain the bitcoins it earns from car sales, instead of converting them into fiat currency as many companies do. The CEO added that the Bitcoin payment option will be available outside the U.S. later this year.

Musk also disclosed more details about how Tesla is involved in the Bitcoin ecosystem, saying, "Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly."

Last month, Tesla declared $1.5 billion in Bitcoin holdings.
