Thailand’s tourism authority is working to make spending and payments of cryptocurrencies by tourists easier, Bloomberg reported this weekend, citing the body’s governor.
“There are people who have become wealthy from holding digital currencies and they may want to use the wealth they have accrued,” Yuthasak Supasorn, the head of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, according to the report.
The body is laying the groundwork for wider cryptocurrencies in time for a return to normal levels of global travel, and is discussing plans with a number of other bodies such as the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission, the Bank of Thailand and Bitkub Online Co., the largest crypto exchange in the country, the governor said.
