Binance Charity, the philanthropic arm of Binance, completed the donation of 15,000 surgical masks, worth 26,000 Brazilian reais, to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil, one of the countries most affected by the pandemic in the world.
The masks were donated to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo, founded over 460 years ago, considered the largest philanthropic entity in Latin America, with more than 140 thousand services, including emergency and laboratory.
“This crisis has affected medical institutions around the world. Binance Charity responded to society's call by providing valuable supplies to ensure the health and safety of frontline workers. Binance will continue to be a force for good wherever necessary,” said Changpeng Zhao, the CEO and founder of Binance.
With the donation, Binance joins this important chain of solidarity, which has already helped raise around 6,000,000,000 Brazilian reais to public and private initiatives in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. The disease caused by the new coronavirus has already infected more than 2 million people in the country, with more than 80,000 deaths.
“Binance Charity has supported the fight against COVID-19 in countries where this support is most needed. We help more than 20 countries on several continents,” says Helen Hai, head of Binance Charity. “In Brazil, the Unified Health Service (SUS) is an important resource in the treatment and care of people affected by this pandemic. At Binance Charity, we wanted to show our support for SUS in a significant way; increasing the PPE supplies that protect health professionals at Santa Casa de São Paulo ”, he adds.
In a letter signed by the Institutional Relations director Julia Maria Povoas Ferreira, the hospital thanked Binance. "Santa Casa de São Paulo would like to thank you for donating 15,000 surgical masks for the anti-COVID-19 campaign. Your solidarity gesture contributes to the continuity of this 460-year history in the service of those who most need health care,” she said.
Since the launch of Binance Charity's “Crypto Against COVID” campaign in March 2020, the organization has delivered 1,000,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) worth about 4,000,000 US dollars to several countries around the world
