NEW YORK (Consensus)--Binance Charity Foundation (BCF), the philanthropic arm and blockchain-enabled charity platform of global cryptocurrency exchange Binance, successfully secured pledges for cryptocurrency donations worth US$200,000 at a private gala dinner during New York Blockchain Week to support the Binance for Children program. The event is hosted by Bloq, a leading blockchain technology company.
The gala dinner took place at the Soho House New York on May 14, 2019, in support of expanding certain Binance Charity initiatives that aim to increase aid provided to Uganda and to encourage children to continue their education. A few minutes after the event began, Binance Charity was able to secure commitments worth US$100,000 in cryptocurrency donations, and Matthew Roszak, chairman and co-founder of Bloq, generously matched the amount with his own US$100,000 pledge.
Helen Hai, the head of Binance Charity, delivered a keynote speech on the organization's endeavors, after opening remarks from Matthew Roszak. Justin Sun, Founder of Tron, and Rachel Wolfson, Forbes Contributor and Podcast Host of The Crypto Chick graced the occasion.
Through the expansion of its children-oriented initiatives, Binance Charity aims to provide 100,000 students from 160 schools in Uganda with a wide range of goods that will improve the quality of education in Uganda, including breakfast and lunch meals, school supplies (such as textbooks, pencils, exercise books, pens, geometry and math sets), solar panels, sanitary pads, LED screens, and more.
“Blockchain technology offers a very powerful solution for maintaining transparency in global philanthropy and providing for the effective delivery of aid,” said Helen Hai of Binance Charity Foundation. “Our dedication to exploring these possibilities underscores our belief that blockchain-enabled charity stands to become a transformative force for good. The 100,000 end beneficiaries in Uganda will just be a starting point. I firmly believe that with all the good hearts in crypto space, we can expand our initiative to empower the bottom billion”
All donations will be recorded on the Binance Charity Foundation website via its blockchain-powered charity platform, specifically on the Binance Charity Wallet. The Binance Charity team hopes to further illustrate the capabilities, transparency, and efficiency of blockchain-enabled charitable donations, making global philanthropy more trustworthy.
“In much of the excitement surrounding cryptocurrencies, blockchains, and tokenization, the magnitude of humanitarian applications has often been underrated, until recently,” said Matthew Roszak of Bloq. “Helen, CZ, and the Binance Charity Foundation have been key drivers of tangibly illustrating the possibilities of charity on the blockchain. We hope more organizations join this global effort.”
Binance Charity extends its gratitude to the following donors during the event: Matthew Roszak, Richard Rofe, Scott Walker, Max Sanchez, Jehan Chu, Manmeet Singh, Jordan Earls, Zee, Michael Terpin, Brad Chun, and other donors who wish not to be named.
