Just asking because I don’t get it.

Scrolling through my feed during earnings season, I see a bunch of companies: touting “AI-driven productivity” while laying off 2,000 people—and their stock prices go up as soon as the news breaks.

The internet immediately splits into two camps—
One side says: This is progress. Fewer people can get more done. They deserve applause.
The other says: They’re just using AI as cover for layoffs. It has nothing to do with efficiency.

I’m leaning toward the latter.
Honestly, I don’t get it: if productivity really improved, why is the first move always to cut jobs instead of expanding the business?

I want an honest answer: do you think this is a productivity dividend, or just an excuse?

Don’t sit on the fence in the comments—which side are you on?
