✂️ NEAR will issue 36% fewer new tokens — community approves plan
The maximum annual issuance is proposed to be gradually reduced from 2.5% to 1.6% over two years. The initiative was supported by 99.97% of veNEAR holders who voted.
For holders, this means slower growth in the token supply. But staking rewards will also decrease: according to the authors’ calculations, gross yield could fall from 5.27% to 3.37% if the proportion of tokens staked remains unchanged.
The reduction will not begin immediately: a Security Council review, protocol upgrade, validator approval, and a transition period of about 90 days are still ahead.
