Moxin Watch | Variational has a 77% chance of launching a token by year-end; 32% airdropped based on points, worth about $32 per point at a $1B valuation

On Polymarket’s “By what date will Variational launch a token?” market, as of 22:05 on 11/1, the odds of a launch by 12/31 were 77.3%, while the odds of a launch by 11/30 were just 15.5%. When the market opened last year, the “by the end of 2025” bet was settled as “No.” The timeline set by the team on 9/24 was Q4. 32% of the tokens will be airdropped to point holders, and all tokens will be unlocked at launch.

Here’s a rundown, based on the figures the team has made public, of what Variational is, how to earn points, and what still needs to happen before the token launch—followed by an estimate of how much each point is worth.

🐋 Variational in one minute

- A perpetuals DEX on Arbitrum; its trading product is called Omni
- No trading fees. All orders are quoted and matched by the official market maker, OLP; revenue comes from the bid-ask spread
- 581 markets are currently listed. Alongside crypto, swaps for traditional markets such as gold and the Nasdaq were added starting in September
- Official biweekly report on 10/30: $449.9B in cumulative trading volume, $1.78B in open interest, and $290M in TVL (excluding OLP hedging accounts)
- Completed a $50M Series A in May, led by Dragonfly

🐋 How to participate

1. Omni is still in closed beta; registration requires an invite code, which the team distributes on Discord and X
2. Connect an EVM wallet on Arbitrum and deposit USDC. Deposits and withdrawals are gas-free, with a fixed 0.1 USDC fee per transaction
3. Some regions are restricted; opening the site will show an “Access Restricted” message
4. Trading earns points. Points for the previous week are distributed every Friday at 0:00 UTC, at a fixed rate of 150,000 points per week. The team hasn’t disclosed whether points are calculated based on volume, open interest, or spread
5. Accounts with 30-day trading volume starting at $1M receive a points boost, ranging from +0.5% to +5% at $2.5B in volume
6. For every 10 points earned by an invitee, the inviter gets 1 additional point
7. To claim the airdrop, an account must have at least 1 point and sign the $VAR Terms of Service; any unclaimed tokens will be burned

According to Alea Research’s quarterly report, swap volume has counted double toward points since 9/3. The previous “loss rebate” program has been discontinued after returning a total of $4.56M.

🐋 Why so many people are watching

- Allocation: 32% for the airdrop, fully unlocked at launch; 50% for the team and investors, locked for 12 months and then unlocked over at least 3 years; 18% for the foundation ecosystem reserve
- The tokenomics post on 9/24 received 2.9M views
- The 150,000 points distributed in week 46 (on 10/30) went to 32,293 accounts
- Alea Research estimates Q3 trading volume at $114.2B, or 6.4% of on-chain perpetuals volume, ranking fourth; open interest share was 6.8%, ranking third
- The treasury currently holds 12.13M USDC. The team says 100% of revenue deposited into the treasury will be used to buy back and burn $VAR
- Two Polymarket markets: the token launch date market has seen $482,000 in cumulative volume; in the “FDV one day after launch” market, the $1B bracket alone has seen $875,000 in volume

🐋 When will it launch?

- The original plan was to end the points program at the end of Q3 and launch the token afterward. On 9/24, this was pushed to Q4, citing a “major strategic partnership”; the partner has not been announced
- The official docs say weekly points will be distributed no later than the end of Q4
- The 9/24 post said the final weeks before the token launch would see the end of closed beta, the opening of the public mainnet, more swaps, the release of a trading API, and details on buybacks and token utility
- Biweekly report on 10/30: the mainnet version was v0.38.2, the trading API was still in preparation, and registration still required an invite code
- So the day invite codes are removed and the public mainnet goes live will likely mark the start of the final weeks before the token launch

🐋 The math: how much is one point worth?

- Points distributed so far: 3M at launch + 46 weeks × 150,000 ≈ 9.9M points (assuming 150,000 were distributed every week)
- Dividing the 32% airdrop across 9.9M points: about $16 per point at a $500M launch FDV, $32 at $1B, and $65 at $2B
- If points continue to be distributed through the final week of December, the total will be about 11.1M points; at a $1B FDV, each point would be worth about $29
- Cost: users paid $5.23M in spreads over the two weeks covered by the biweekly report, during which 300,000 points were distributed—an average of about $17 per point. This is an average and excludes funding rates and slippage
- Polymarket’s “FDV one day after launch” market: 87.5% odds of exceeding $500M, 55.5% of exceeding $1B, and 28.5% of exceeding $2B

On the revenue side, net revenue over two weeks was $2.34M, of which $1.05M went to the treasury. At this rate, annual net revenue would be about $60.9M, with about $27.2M going to the treasury. A $1B FDV is 16 times annualized net revenue and 37 times the annual buyback amount.

This article has not audited the contract. Token allocation and points rules are from the @variational_io post on 9/24 and the official docs; operating figures are from the 10/30 biweekly report; Q3 market share is from Alea Research; and odds are from Polymarket (as of 22:05 on 11/1).
