$93.2 million was just the initial figure: following the Ledger spy chip incident, on-chain estimates have been revised up to about $102 million, with 324 wallets drained. The timeline is clear: the attacker first carried out 41 small-value test transactions starting September 26, then launched the main attack on October 9. The chip was hidden beneath the screen layer; when the device displayed the 24-word recovery phrase during initialization, the chip read it and sent it via LTE. The secure element itself was not compromised. The fallout is also widening: Ledger has asked distributors in several parts of Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, China, to suspend sales, while Tether froze about $10 million in USDT.
