$TIA up 16% in a day: Is the AI-chain narrative real demand or a new way to fleece investors? 🤔

Let’s start with three data points. First, on October 16, TIA rose 16–19% in a single day, touching $0.72 intraday and breaking above the $0.70 mark (confirmed by CoinDesk, TokenPost, and others). Second, it gained 59% over four weeks, while $BTC rose just 5.9% over the same period—outperforming the broader market by 10x. Third, spot net inflows reached $2.71 million on October 16, and open interest recovered to around $114 million, suggesting both bulls and bears are starting to place serious bets.

The catalyst was the launch of the Eden chain—an EVM chain tailor-made for AI agents: 100-millisecond block times, sponsored gas fees for apps, and a 128 KB smart contract limit. TIA is the chain’s native gas token, so the logic is straightforward: agents run trades and inference on-chain, and the gas they burn is TIA. Add the 3.07 Tbps throughput test on Fibre on October 1, and the technical narrative has plenty of fuel too.

But when you take a closer look, the numbers aren’t all rosy. Actual on-chain blob usage is falling: from 2.77 GB a day in mid-September to 2.05 GB in mid-October, while daily mainnet fees are just $96. It’s expectations that are rising, not revenue. And TIA perpetuals had negative funding rates before the rally, making this a classic short squeeze amplified by a strong narrative—not institutions stepping in to buy the dip.

The conclusion is simple: buy the narrative, not the highs. $0.60–$0.62 is the first support zone, and $0.70–$0.72 is the ceiling for now. Only once it holds above $0.70 does it make sense to talk about $0.75–$0.80; if it breaks below $0.60, it’s time to admit defeat. Is on-chain trading by AI agents real demand or the next way to fleece investors? Let us know in the comments.
