Breaking down the futures market: volume, price, levels

Before price speaks, leverage should stay quiet.

Futures care about only three sets of numbers. Everything else is noise.

1. BTC 83754, 24h 82805-84199, change +0.79%.
2. BTC open interest notional: $7.80 billion, 24h +1.57%
3. Account-wide long/short ratio: 1.38

My take: Open interest is up +1.57% over 24h while price is up +0.79%. That points to longs adding, not shorts covering. A pullback could bring profit-taking.

Execution zones (based on current price ± structure, not an old chart):
- Momentum zone: Only consider chasing above 84,424; below that, it’s a false breakout
- Buy the retest: 82,749-83,251; don’t buy if it breaks below
- No-trade zone: If the 1h candle closes below 82,246, skip this trade

My position: I only buy the retest; I don’t chase breakouts. If the structure holds, I can keep a starter position, but I’ll only add on a retest.

Data: Binance spot 24h / Binance USDⓈ-M / Yahoo daily (5-day change) / altme_fng / mempool_fees / defillama_chains / coingecko_trending. Missing numbers are not filled in.
Are you flat and waiting for a retest, or are you already in?

Useful tip: Liquidations happen in a queue; that’s not your stop-loss price. When the queue gets backed up, slippage makes up the difference.
Idea: When funding turns positive and the long/short ratio is >1.15, note that the market is crowded first—don’t write “chase the rally.”
