BTC reached 82,466, up 1.31% over 24 hours. Sounds bullish, but futures trading volume was 9.903 billion and open interest was 7.598 billion, down 0.11%. Prices went up, but leverage didn’t follow.
That’s how I see it: when the market looks like this, I usually put a question mark next to it first!
Of 739 USDT perpetuals across the market, 622 were up, or 84.2%. ETH was also up 1.82%—breadth was undeniably strong. But funding rates were just +0.00361% for BTC and +0.00313% for ETH. Longs aren’t willing to pay much to borrow, which suggests that even fresh capital isn’t fully convinced. This looks more like existing funds shifting around than genuine easing, with liquidity pouring in as the dollar retreats.
The outliers were even more extreme. US was up 121.47% in a day, with its funding rate pushed to +0.03931%. NATGAS had a funding rate of +0.50000%—longs were packed in tight, yet the price was only up 3.40%. On the other hand, CTSI had a funding rate of -0.38940% and KAIA -0.20311%. Shorts were piling in, but KAIA was up 40.99%—the crowded side could get squeezed at any moment.
