According to Cointelegraph: Former FTX CEO, Sam "SBF" Bankman-Fried, expressed confusion over his incarceration, stating that he did not believe his activities were unlawful. His comments follow his sentencing to 25 years in a federal prison by Judge Lewis Kaplan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

According to an ABC News report on April 1, Bankman-Fried responded via email from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn where he has been confined since August 2023.

Expressing regrets over the fallout, he noted: "I’m haunted, every day, by what was lost. I never intended to hurt anyone or take anyone’s money." Despite acknowledging "bad decisions," he did not directly take responsibility for the implosion of the crypto exchange in November 2022.

Judge Kaplan recommended that the ex-CEO complete the rest of his sentence in a medium- or low-security prison in the San Francisco Bay Area. Considering the time already served, Bankman-Fried is estimated to serve approximately 24.25 years. Under the federal prison system, the term could potentially be reduced for good behavior, but there is no parole.

Bankman-Fried's lawyers have stated their intention to appeal the verdict, but no formal appeal had been filed at the time of the report.
