Elon Musk predicts that Starship could land on Mars and conduct unmanned testing "within three or four years." He said he needed to check the synchronicity of Earth and Mars because when Mars is on the other side of the solar system, you can't travel there. It must be within the Mars transmission window.
SpaceX is also working on landing on the moon, as the spacecraft is intended to serve as an interplanetary transportation system. As a propulsion system, it will be able to land on any solid surface in the solar system.
The plan is to establish a colony on Mars and build a propellant factory to travel to the asteroid belt and the moons of Jupiter, eventually all the way to the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud.
