The keyword "witch" 🧙‍♀️ has appeared in many news recently. Someone asked me what witch means? I don't like to give you some popular science: In the field of blockchain and cryptocurrency, "Sybil attack" refers to a form of network attack in which the attacker creates multiple identities or nodes (called "Sybil" nodes) to control or manipulate certain aspects of the network. This attack method is named after a character Sybil in a 1973 psychology case study who suffered from multiple personality disorder. The purpose of a sybil attack is to destroy the consensus mechanism of a decentralized system. For example, in a blockchain network, an attacker may try to influence the transaction verification process or change the network rules by controlling multiple nodes. This obviously violates the core principles of blockchain decentralization and immutability. Sybil attacks include many forms, such as: 1⃣️ Identity forgery: The attacker creates a large number of false identities to increase his influence in the network. 2⃣️ Network control: The attacker controls a large number of nodes in order to carry out malicious activities in the network. 3⃣️Voting manipulation: In blockchain governance models that require community voting, attackers can use multiple identities to manipulate voting results.
To prevent witch attacks, blockchain systems usually adopt various mechanisms such as identity authentication, node reputation systems, and consensus algorithms such as proof of work (PoW) or proof of stake (PoS) to ensure the security and decentralization of the network.
