El Salvador received a disbursement of about $138 million from the IMF this time, while the IMF also granted a waiver for the previously unmet condition on BTC accumulation. The IMF explained that the recent increase of $BTC came from disclosed private donations, but also explicitly required El Salvador to continue reducing the government’s direct involvement in Bitcoin-related activities.
So I think the most interesting thing to discuss here isn’t “the IMF gave it the green light,” but rather: when a country takes money from the IMF while still sticking to its own BTC strategy, does this count as a compromise, or has it simply found a different way to play the game?
Do you think El Salvador will keep holding $BTC , or will it gradually back off?
