【UNI drops 81% and you think it’s safe? You might be the next victim of a “bargain-hunting” mindset】
In the past couple of days, I’ve gotten quite a few messages in my inbox about UNI.
The reasons all sound pretty similar—"It’s down 81% from the high. Where else can it possibly go?" "DeFi’s big leader. Back then it was so strong. Now it’s only a little over 8—so it’s cheap."
I get what you mean. But in the 2021 bull market, I had the same thoughts: "This sector is so great—how much further can it really fall?" And what happened? It fell so much that I started doubting life.
Let’s look at the numbers:
In seven days it surged by nearly 40%. The FNG index shot straight to 71, while the weekly average is only 60. What does that tell you? Market sentiment is clearly running ahead of fundamentals. You can say, "The price is still low," but the short-term gains are right there—sentiment has already gotten high.
And trading volume is unusually inflated—over 5% of market cap. Big money is moving. You think you’re picking up the dip as a retail investor, but more often than not, big players run first.
Let’s put it plainly. As for UNI, to put it simply, it’s a token that represents shares in Uniswap’s fee revenue. Returns depend on swap volume, LP depth, and whether the token incentive model has changed. Have you really cared about these data right now? Or did you just see "down 81%" and reflexively feel like it’s value?
I’m not here to bash the UNI project. Uniswap is still one of the best liquidity-focused DEXs in DeFi. But "a good project" doesn’t equal "a good time to buy." These are two different things.
If you enter now, what you’re potentially making is the money from sentiment. And if you lose, you’re very likely to be among the people whose positions get harvested by that same sentiment.
Back in 2017, I was cut the same way—thinking it was cheap, thinking the bottom was in, thinking if I didn’t buy then I’d miss my chance. Then what? I got educated very clearly.
So don’t ask me whether you should buy. I just want to ask you: do you have a position right now? Have you set up hedging? Or are you planning to go all in waiting to get rich overnight?
Honestly, I’m itching to trade too—but this time, I really didn’t jump in.
