Shein to Launch a Hong Kong IPO Next Week, Valuation Down 70% From Its Peak

Fast-fashion giant Shein plans to kick off IPO order books at the earliest next week on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, targeting a valuation of US$35 billion and raising up to US$2.8 billion. Its core drivers are threefold:

First, it’s forced to “switch to Hong Kong” for its listing path. Earlier plans to list in New York and London were shelved due to stringent reviews by U.S. and European regulators of its supply-chain operating model and tax structure. After it was filed with the China Securities Regulatory Commission on July 10, 2026, Hong Kong became the only viable exit route.

Second, funding needs are urgent. While its core business remains strong—2025 revenue exceeding US$40 billion and net profit nearing US$2 billion—IPO proceeds can help ease the capital pressure caused by ongoing global expansion, and also meet the liquidity/exit needs of institutional shareholders. The funds are expected to be deployed at scale into heavy-asset projects such as enabling full-scale domestic industries and supporting flexible production-line upgrades.

Third, the valuation bubble has begun to clear. Private-market valuations have fallen from a peak of around US$100 billion in 2022. Advisors are pitching the deal to prospective investors at below US$30 billion, about 70% lower than the peak. Offering at a discount makes it easier to win approval for funding.

📈 Bullish in the short term: JPM (J.P. Morgan), GS (Goldman Sachs), and MS (Morgan Stanley) are all on board as sponsors, alongside a recovery in sentiment for new listings on Hong Kong stocks—providing a positive tailwind for related U.S. brokerage stocks via the anchoring effect.

📉 Bearish in the long term: After the U.S. eliminated the tax-exempt treatment for small parcels under US$800, Q1 U.S. revenue fell year over year by 14.3%, and the company swung from profit to loss. Meanwhile, the EU plans to levy a €3 per-item cross-border fee—regulatory pressure and tariffs remain unresolved, leaving fundamentals under strain. #Shein最早下周启动香港IPO招股
