Truth or myth? FBI would have accidentally deleted 3,400 Bitcoins?
In recent days, the story circulated that the FBI had "pressed the wrong button" and destroyed a hard drive with more than 3,400 BTC, valued at over US$ 300 million. But the real version of the case is very different from what went viral.
What actually happened: a convicted person claimed that one of the disks seized by the police contained the access key to thousands of Bitcoins. Years later, he tried to hold the government responsible for the destruction of the hard drive, arguing that the supposed fortune had been lost forever.
However, the Justice system rejected the accusation. There is no concrete evidence that these Bitcoins really existed, and the claimant had officially declared to own only minimal amounts in crypto. In other words, there is no confirmation that the FBI deleted millions in BTC, just an allegation without solid evidence.
Conclusion: the story makes headlines, but it is nothing more than an exaggerated and unverified version. Always good to check the facts before getting into the hype. 😉
