🚨The European Commission is assessing risks and considering export controls in “critical technology areas” such as artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor technologies.
🔍The risk assessment will be completed before the end of the year, and the results and initiatives based on the risk assessment will be presented in spring 2024.
🌐This development follows the adoption by the European Commission on June 20 of the Joint Communication on the European Economic Security Strategy, which included “risk protection” and promoting European competitiveness in certain markets.
🇺🇸The US has also focused on assessing the risks of exporting its own technologies in similar sectors, in particular, banning the export of high-quality AI semiconductor chips to China.
