How long should you hold BTC to increase the probability of making a profit?

The Strategy simulated that everyone bought Bitcoin on any day from 2010 to August 2026, then checked the results after 1, 2, 3, and 4 years as shown in the attached figure.

The data shows that if you only buy and hold for 1–2 years, you still face a very high risk of losses (worst case is -68% to -83%). But when you extend the holding period to the 4-year mark (equivalent to one Halving cycle), there has never been a 4-year period that ended below the purchase price.

Even in the most unlucky scenario—buying right at the peak in April 2021—four years later that position was still up +32.6%. That is why the Strategy considers 4 years as the minimum planning timeframe to eliminate the risk of choosing the wrong entry point.

However, it’s important to clarify that:
- Returns will cool off: The early-stage exponential growth rate cannot last forever as the market’s capitalization keeps expanding.
- Long-term cycles only matter if you’re not forced out of the game halfway through: If your account gets wiped out due to leverage, or you have to sell immediately at the bottom because you’re short on living expenses, then even a later multi-fold increase won’t be able to save you.
