The popular Bitcoin Electrum wallet has urgently released version 4.8.2 with important security and infrastructure fixes.
Key points of the update:
⚠️ Lightning Network fix: Resolves a critical issue in Lightning channel backups with non-deterministic keys. Old backups did not allow moving funds on-chain after a forced channel close.
🔑 Improved key management: Rejects malformed xpub/xprv keys that were processed previously.
📲 Privacy on Android: Prevents the QR code scanner from accessing or reading screenshots.
Recommended action: If you use Lightning features in Electrum, update to version 4.8.2 and generate a new backup, since previous backups will not be able to restore funds correctly.
