Bitcoin Core 32.0 has entered the final testing phase from September 14 and is expected to be officially released on October 10. The update does not change Bitcoin’s consensus rules.
The new version adds a second fee estimator, referencing pending transactions to lower the fee estimate more quickly when network congestion decreases. Nodes can also use multi-threading to retrieve transaction data when validating blocks.
By default, Bitcoin Core 32.0 uses eight threads for data retrieval tasks from the database to reduce disk wait time. Four commands that create partially signed transactions will switch to PSBT version 2 format by default, requiring related services to ensure compatibility.
The developer has also addressed a vulnerability affecting systems other than Windows from Bitcoin Core 24.0. Under certain conditions, users who verified they had permission to create wallets could execute commands through specially created wallet names when the walletnotify feature was enabled.
An additional audit also found a risk of memory exhaustion on the new web server: 16 unauthenticated REST connections could cause the node’s memory to increase from 46 MB to about 3 GB within a minute. This issue was fixed before Bitcoin Core 32.0 was released.
