According to BlockBeats, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) has decided to extend its pilot program for the issuance of wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) by at least two more years. This announcement was made by board member Antoine Martin.
The program, which was launched in December of the previous year and was initially planned to end on June 30, has been deemed 'very successful'. As a result, the scope of the project will be expanded.
Martin stated that the Swiss National Bank hopes that over time, more financial institutions will be able to participate. This would allow the wholesale central bank digital currency to be used for a wider range of financial transactions.
