XMR near $590 | Fed meeting underway | I’ll wait for confirmation above $600

My stance is to watch cautiously and not treat a pre-meeting rebound as a trend. The Fed’s official calendar shows a two-day FOMC meeting on October 27–28, with the decision and the Chair’s press conference scheduled for the 28th, U.S. time. At the time of writing, no rate decision has been announced. The exact trending topic currently on Binance Square is #FOMC会议. Discussion is heating up, but that does not replace the actual statement. Any claims that “rates have already been cut” or that the Fed “has already turned dovish” are not confirmed facts at this point.

Why does XMR also need to be viewed in this macro context? Demand for privacy and monetary policy are two separate things. XMR does not automatically become a safe-haven asset just because it offers privacy features. The rate decision first affects expectations for U.S. interest rates, risk-asset positioning, and exchange liquidity, and may then feed through to XMR. Its order-book depth differs from BTC’s, so the same macro volatility could result in greater slippage. That’s why I care more about whether key levels hold and trading activity remains sustained than about a single breakout candle. Recent GUI updates from the official Monero project address wallet usability and fixes; they are not a direct catalyst for this macro-driven market move.

The market has already provided some specific information: at the time of writing, XMR/USD on Kraken is around $590.5, with an intraday range of $584.8–$611.77, an opening price of about $597, and the current price below the open. The price is still below $600 for now, suggesting that a breakout to higher levels has yet to hold. These are live market figures and should not be attributed to a meeting decision that has not yet been announced. $600 is my first threshold for watching a reclaim of the round-number level, while $611–$612, near the intraday high, is the next resistance area. $584–$585, near the intraday low, is the support zone to watch. If the price closes and holds above $600, with a successful retest, that could invalidate my cautious outlook. If it falls below $584, the short-term recovery thesis is off the table.

If I were trading this myself, I would stay out for now and would not bet in advance on the direction of rates. If XMR reclaims $600 after the decision, I would wait for at least an hourly close to confirm, then consider a spot position using no more than 3% of my total capital only if it holds near $600 on a retest. No leverage. The first target is $611, where I’d take half off. I’d hold the remainder toward $620, but only if volume and BTC remain stable as well. After buying, I’d stop out if an hourly close falls back below $592. If, after a breakout, the price still cannot reclaim $600 within two hours, or the policy statement clearly drives up the dollar and volatility in risk assets, I’d close the remaining position. If it breaks below $584 first, I’d just watch—no catching a falling knife, and I wouldn’t report an untriggered plan as a completed trade.
