At the core of Kite is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain, meaning it operates as an independent network while retaining compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. This allows developers familiar with Ethereum’s smart contract ecosystem to build applications without learning a completely new framework, lowering barriers to entry and encouraging adoption. Kite, however, diverges from traditional blockchains in its focus on agent-first functionality. The network implements a three-layer identity system that distinguishes between users, agents, and sessions. Every AI agent can be issued a cryptographic identity, or “Agent Passport,” which carries verifiable reputation, history, and permissions. This system ensures that agents remain auditable and accountable while allowing them to operate autonomously.
