The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is still going on. Last night, the US stock market opened low and ended high. The three major US stock indexes all closed higher after opening lower, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.6%, the S&P 500 up 0.6%, and the Nasdaq up 0.4%. The rise in the US stock market is of great significance in influencing the recovery of risk appetite in the global market (there was only a little risk aversion on Monday, not a full-scale panic).
The US dollar index turned from rising to falling and closed slightly lower. Gold prices rose 1.1% to a one-week high. If the situation in the Middle East escalates further, it may move towards $1,900. Oil prices rose more than 4% and closed near the high of the day. The impact of geopolitical tensions on financial markets is usually short-lived, but crude oil is an exception.
The reason for the low opening and high closing last night may be related to the speeches of two Fed officials. Dallas Fed President Logan said that the surge in U.S. Treasury yields may mean that the need for further rate hikes is reduced. Fed Vice Chairman Jefferson said that although the inflation rate is still too high, he is paying attention to the potential suppressive effect of rising U.S. Treasury yields on the economy, and officials can act cautiously when assessing the degree of additional policy tightening that may be necessary.
What is different from the past is that the Fed is saving the bond market this time. The recent fluctuations in bond yields are beyond the scope of understanding the Fed's policies alone. In one day, two Fed officials expressed the same views, both of which were aimed at the recent surge in U.S. Treasury yields. It is obvious that they were instructed or prepared to save the recent decline in the U.S. Treasury market. Since the Fed raised interest rates by 25 basis points in July, the yield on long-term U.S. Treasury bonds has risen by a full percentage point, which is a huge increase for a large market.
Master looks at the trend:
The market fell by $600 last night, and finally found effective support near 27,300, and then rose by about $300, and is currently hovering around 27,600. In the case that the market has not yet fully come out, no one can get rid of the macro background and have a sustained independent market.
At the 4-hour level, the general direction is not bad. If it closes below 27,300, the short-term trend will change again. Otherwise, it will continue to adjust and hover in a healthy manner.
