China Daily, the publication of the Chinese Communist Party, wants to create its own metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) platform.
According to the latest announcement, China Daily is offering a reward of 2.813 million Yuan ($390,000) to a third-party contractor who can design an NFT platform within budget specifications. The contractor could be a “Chinese or foreign” blockchain firm. Additionally, the main network of the blockchain firm that wins the contract must be capable of handling more than 10,000 transactions per second.
Contractors must submit their applications by October 17 and design the platform within three months. The purpose of the China Daily NFT Platform is to "use metaverse, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (AR) and Blockchain, non-fungible digital assets (NFT), big data, cloud computing and other technologies" "To improve the spread of the influence of Chinese Civilization".
Developers stated that the platform should allow "uploading, viewing, and managing digital collections" and "support multimedia forms and multiple collection types." Pricing, bidding, and limited-time functions should also be built into the NFT platform in multi-currency.
"In addition to its own platform, domestic and international mainstream NFT platforms that are suitable for publishing digital collections will be selected according to their project goals and target audience. Foreign platforms include OpenSea, Rarible, SuperRare, Foundation, etc.."
China has banned all cryptocurrency transactions since 2021. Although some blockchain companies still operate in the country, they often face intense scrutiny from law enforcement.
