【If SOL falls below $98, are you buying more or getting out?】
Honestly, quite a few people have asked me this lately.
My answer? We’re not at that point yet. But I’d like to take a moment to sort through what I’ve seen this week.
First, the market. SOL has basically gone nowhere this week, up 1.5% over 24 hours and down 0.6% over 7 days. It’s now hovering around $105. The key support below is $98.97, while $108.15 is clear resistance. These levels are the most frustrating—you feel like a move is about to happen, but it’s just not quite there.
Sentiment is interesting. The Fear and Greed Index has dropped to 53, below this week’s average of 60. This is a signal I pay attention to—not the index itself, but its trend. Buying sentiment is cooling, but we’re not at panic levels yet.
It reminds me of my days in e-commerce. Whenever the broader market got choppy, some people were always in a hurry to get out, while others quietly built their positions.
What really makes me want to say a bit more is what’s behind two pieces of news.
First, Solana has scheduled its Alpenglow upgrade for October 21, aiming to bring block finalization time down to under 150 milliseconds. To be honest, tech people may get more out of that figure, but what does it mean for everyday holders?
It means that using the chain could feel more like Web2, where things happen “in an instant.” That matters a lot in DeFi—when it comes to arbitrage and interacting with smart contracts, a few milliseconds can sometimes mean money. Second, trading volume for tokenized stocks is already close to $3.3 billion, with most of it happening while U.S. stock markets are closed. This is what I find more interesting.
$3.3 billion sounds like a lot, but compared with average daily trading volume in global stocks, it’s just a drop in the ocean. Whether this can really take off depends not on whether the blockchain technology works, but on whether traditional finance is willing to give up a piece of the pie.
My takeaway from hands-on experience is this: the technology is no longer the problem. The question is when the existing balance of interests will finally shift. Solana’s upgrade could help speed up that shift—or it could just be another round of technical iteration. Next week, I’ll be watching two things: whether trading volume picks up, and whether market expectations change ahead of the upgrade. If SOL breaks above $108.15 on strong volume, this consolidation may be over. If volume keeps shrinking and the price moves sideways, we may be in for more of the same.
To answer the question from the beginning: what would I do if SOL really fell below $98? I might buy in gradually, but I wouldn’t go all in. Position management sounds simple, but putting it into practice is all about human nature.
Have my views changed this week? No. I’m still bullish on the direction, but I’m being a little more patient about the timing than I was last week.
What do you think? Is this Alpenglow upgrade all hype, or the real deal?
