🚨 📉 $2T+ Wiped Out: Hedge Funds Face Forced Liquidations as Markets Panic

When markets fall this fast, the biggest danger isn't always the first sell-off. It's what happens when leveraged investors are forced to sell.

November 5 brought a historic technology-led market rout. The Nasdaq lost around $2.5 trillion in market value, while the wider US stock market suffered enormous losses.

Hedge funds are feeling the pressure. Goldman Sachs reported technology-focused long-short funds fell more than 4% in one session, leaving their 2026 gains roughly flat after reaching 24% in June.

Some managers are cutting leverage, closing losing strategies and reducing teams. Walleye Capital also announced plans to shrink its equity long-short business and return some investor capital.

My take: The real threat is overlapping positions. When multiple funds own similar stocks, one fund's decision to sell can become another fund's problem. Forced selling can turn a correction into a much deeper liquidity shock.

Crypto traders should watch Bitcoin, funding rates, open interest and liquidation data. Risk aversion can spread across markets.

Remember: Leverage turns falling prices into forced decisions.

Is this a temporary reset or the beginning of a wider deleveraging cycle?
