Zcash activated its landmark NU7 upgrade on November 6, 2026, cutting target block time from 75 seconds to 25.
At block 3,543,405 (02:34 UTC on November 6, 2026), Zcash NU7 went live on mainnet. Target block intervals drop from 75 seconds to 25, so shielded payments can confirm about three times faster — a first confirmation near 25 seconds on average, and a three-confirmation wait closer to 75 seconds, depending on each service. Block subsidies scale down with the shorter interval so daily issuance stays on track, and the block count between halvings triples to preserve the schedule and the 21 million $ZEC supply cap.
NU7 also turns on the Network Sustainability Mechanism: miners keep 40% of fees while 60% enter a public reserve that starts feeding future rewards around 2031. Specs peg simple private-payment capacity at more than six per second. The original Sprout pool is retired, leaving about 12,224 ZEC unspendable for now.
