Bitcoin Developer Proposes a New Way to Trap Quantum Hackers

What if stealing Bitcoin could make the hacker lose their own money too?

Bitcoin Core developer Cory Fields has proposed an idea called “quantum landmines” to protect vulnerable BTC from future quantum attacks.

Here’s how it could work: 👀

If a hacker tries to steal someone’s Bitcoin, they would first have to put up an equal amount of their own BTC as collateral.

The original owner could then reveal hidden proof of ownership and claim both amounts, while the hacker risks losing their deposit.

But there is a catch.

Honest Bitcoin holders would also need matching collateral to move their own vulnerable coins. This could create problems for early holders and people with limited access to their old wallets.

For me, Interesting idea, but it is still a thought experiment, not an active Bitcoin feature. The bigger challenge is protecting Bitcoin from future quantum threats without making life harder for legitimate holders.
