US Midterm Elections Trigger Major Political Shift as Iran War Fuels Voter Backlash

America is entering a new political chapter after Democrats secured a sweeping victory in the 2026 midterm elections, dramatically changing the balance of power in Congress.
The results represent a major setback for President Donald Trump and Republicans, as Democrats made significant gains across the country, winning key seats in both the House and Senate.
Democratic leaders, including Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, are promising a new legislative agenda focused on reducing the cost of fuel, groceries and healthcare. They are also preparing investigations into the Trump administration and its policies, with potential impeachment proceedings among the options being discussed.
Iran War Becomes a Major Election Factor

President Trump acknowledged that the ongoing conflict with Iran played a role in the Republican losses. Rising fuel prices and growing public dissatisfaction with the eight-month conflict appear to have influenced voter sentiment.
Trump defended the military operation and expressed confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying he had no plans to replace him.
Meanwhile, Trump warned that disagreements between the White House and the new Democratic-controlled Congress could create political gridlock, even as he indicated some willingness to cooperate.

What Comes Next?
The election results could reshape US domestic and foreign policy. Healthcare spending, energy prices, government oversight and the future direction of the Iran conflict are likely to remain major issues.
Market Perspective: Political uncertainty and developments surrounding Iran could influence global financial markets, particularly crude oil, gold, the US dollar, Bitcoin and US stocks.
Investors will be watching closely as Washington enters a new phase of divided government.
