JPMorgan is expanding its JPM Coin to the Ethereum blockchain to give institutional clients more ways to settle trades and manage collateral. The token represents US dollar deposits and was first launched on the Base network in November 2025. While the bank's private Kinexys network already handles over $7 billion in daily transactions, that is just a fraction of the $12 trillion the bank moves every day.
The bank chose Ethereum because it holds nearly $50 billion in locked assets and offers the liquidity that crypto-native firms need for payments. This move to public rails is designed to speed up settlements and bypass the friction of traditional banking. Other major banks like Citi and Wells Fargo are working on a shared network for tokenized deposits, but JPMorgan is moving directly into the public ecosystem where clients are already active. In January, JPMorgan also announced plans to bring the token to the Canton Network.
