This week's Nvidia update is pretty big — it's mostly around DLSS 5 and drivers:
1. DLSS 5 October Update — 2x faster, 20% less VRAM
Nvidia dropped a new AI model for DLSS 5 this week. This isn't "DLSS 5.1", just a much more efficient model behind the same name.
What Nvidia claims:
Model runs 2x faster than the September 2026 release
GPU overhead cut in half
4K VRAM usage -20%
Model size -24% to ∼118M parameters
Real-world gaming gain is smaller — Nvidia's own test for NBA 2K27 shows up to 1.4x FPS on RTX 50-series / RTX Spark / GeForce NOW, not a straight 2x.
Rollout schedule:
Oct 16: NBA 2K27 (first game with new DLL 310.9.16.0) and RTX Spark laptops
Oct 23: RTX Remix platform gets DLSS 5 support
Nov 5: Hogwarts Legacy adds DLSS 5
Future games will ship with this faster model as baseline
Only RTX 50-series desktop/laptop, RTX Spark laptops, and GeForce NOW get it for now. No RTX 40/30-series support announced.
2. Driver & App updates
GeForce Hotfix 617.70 (Oct 14, 2026) — fixes black flashes on QHD 360Hz monitors and frame-rate drop to 320 FPS on G-Sync Pulsar monitors
Game Ready Driver 617.42 WHQL (Oct 6, 2026) — last one before the hotfix, includes retirement note: after 20 years, classic NVIDIA Control Panel is officially retiring for Game Ready/Studio drivers. It stays if you already have it, but all new features move to the NVIDIA App
NVIDIA App 11.0.9.565 (Oct 13, 2026):
Native support for RTX Spark + manual GPU memory allocation
DLSS Frame Generation Performance Mode Beta (Model C)
Local MCP server so AI agents can control the app with natural language
CPU Clock / Power / Temp in overlay
NVIDIA Broadcast 2.3 (Oct 13) adds RTX Video Super Resolution + Frame Gen effects, Studio Voice profiles, offline file processor
3. Windows 10 end-of-support
Nvidia will release its final Windows 10-compatible Game Ready + Studio drivers in October 2026, then shift focus to Windows 11 only.
If you're on RTX 50-series, grab NVIDIA App 11.0.9.565 + Hotfix 617.70 and turn on DLSS Override > Frame Generation Model C for the new performance mode. If you're on RTX 40-series or older, you won't see the DLSS 5 boost yet.
