Risk Management Is the Alpha Nobody Talks About
Everyone wants to find the next 10x. Very few people talk about the skill that actually compounds wealth in crypto: position sizing.
Here is the uncomfortable truth — most traders are not undone by bad entry signals. They are undone by oversizing during uncertainty. A 30% drawdown on a 10% position is painful. The same drawdown on a 60% position is a portfolio crisis.
Volatility-adjusted conviction is the framework that changes this. Instead of asking whether you believe in a trade, ask: given the current 30-day realized volatility of this asset, how large a position keeps your max daily drawdown within a range you can sleep through?
$BTC at 40% annualized vol requires a very different allocation than $SOL at 90%. $ETH often sits in the middle — the cleanest balance of liquidity depth and vol for most portfolios.
Three rules worth internalizing:
1. Reduce size as vol expands, not after you feel the pain
2. Your best trade is only as good as your worst position size allows
3. Asymmetric upside comes from staying solvent long enough to see it
The market does not reward the best predictor. It rewards the best survivor.
