Telegram’s next crypto move is coming into focus: reports indicate the platform is preparing to launch Gram Wallet, a native, non-custodial wallet designed to bring GRAM—the token formerly known as Toncoin—directly into Telegram’s massive user base
What’s happening
Telegram’s version 13.0 reportedly includes the built-in Gram Wallet, with a gradual rollout expected rather than an immediate global release. The original Wallet service has been renamed Walt and repositioned as a broader trading and investment interface, while Gram Wallet is intended for simpler in-app activity such as storing and sending GRAM.
Recent reports also describe wider access to Telegram’s embedded wallet experience, now referred to as Money, which supports GRAM transfers, gifts, and collectible usernames. GRAM reacted positively to the expansion news, rising about 9% to $1.56, though short-term price moves do not confirm long-term adoption.
Why it matters
If the rollout proceeds as described, Telegram could become one of the largest distribution channels for self-custodial crypto access, potentially reaching more than one billion users. That could strengthen TON’s ecosystem, increase on-chain activity, and make crypto payments feel more like a normal messaging feature.
But key questions remain: how fees will be sustained, how broadly the wallet will be available by region, and how users adapt to self-custody at scale.
Could a messaging app finally make crypto wallets mainstream—or will convenience and security prove difficult to balance?
