STARKNET WEIGHS A LAYER-1 MOVE AMID AI AND QUANTUM RISKS
Starknet (STRK) is considering leaving its Ethereum layer-2 model to become an independent layer 1, giving the project more control over its security strategy. Founder Eli Ben-Sasson argues that AI could create challenges sooner than expected, alongside the threat from quantum computers, making preparation necessary now.
In my view, this is a major strategic choice, not just an architectural change. As a layer 2, Starknet benefits from Ethereum's security. An independent chain could offer more control over upgrade timing as new risks emerge, but it would also mean greater responsibility for security, bridges and ecosystem growth. Security is a valid concern, yet that alone does not prove a migration is immediately necessary.
Ben-Sasson has pointed to quantum resistance by 2027, while Ethereum's roadmap targets 2029. Starknet has not published a detailed migration plan, and a transition could affect its architecture and STRK's role. I would watch technical proposals, governance decisions and actual network activity before judging the long-term implications for the token.
Should Starknet prioritize independent security control or continue relying on Ethereum's infrastructure? If this logic makes sense, drop a follow for more market breakdowns.
