The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission issued one rule and proposed another to back Chairman Mike Selig’s view that prediction markets event contracts fall under CFTC oversight, not state gambling regulators. According to CoinDesk, the interim final rule excludes casino-style gambling from the swaps definition, while the proposal would fold event contracts tied to sports, politics, cultural and weather events on platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket into swaps rules. The moves come as states challenge the agency in court and the Supreme Court weighs the dispute.
