France's Interior Ministry reported 90 crypto-related cases involving kidnapping, abduction, extortion, threats and violent theft from Jan. 1 to mid-August 2026. Authorities also recorded 223 arrests. Authorities imprisoned 126 people from January to July. Security firm Gart.io has tracked 73 physical attacks in France this year, the highest country total in Gart.io's tracker. Chainalysis researcher Eric Jardine said a significant data breach was very likely responsible for the surge. The Interior Ministry said comparable statistics for 2025 were unavailable because recording began on Jan. 1, 2026.
