Canton Network has published a draft tokenomics CIP called Universal Burn and Synchronizer Pricing, co-authored by Yiannis Varelas of 5North and Shaul Kfir of Digital Asset. According to Foresight News, the proposal would require all production synchronizers on Canton mainnet, including Dedicated Synchronizer, to pay dollar-denominated network traffic fees and settle them on-chain by burning Canton Coin (CC).

The draft says deployment and operation of Dedicated Synchronizer would become permissionless, and activity on those synchronizers would be included in validator and application reward calculations. Activity routed through the Global Synchronizer already results in CC burns, while Dedicated Synchronizer previously paid Digital Asset under a commercial software license that will be phased out as Digital Asset opens the core network.

Under the proposal, Global Synchronizer pricing would remain unchanged at $60 per MB, while the test environment would stay free. Dedicated Synchronizer could receive discounts based on throughput and may also commit CC as collateral for long-term usage in exchange for additional discounts, with the pricing curve and parameters to be introduced in a later CIP.

The first phase is expected in the first quarter of 2027, when the Universal Burn mechanism goes live. The second phase is expected in the third quarter of 2027, when the pricing curve and discounts take effect.
