Zcash Targets January for Quantum-Resistant Payments After ‘Bunker Mode’ Warning

Zcash ($ZEC ) is moving toward stronger wallet security as concerns about future quantum and AI-powered attacks put crypto's existing encryption methods under scrutiny.

According to CoinDesk, developers working on Zcash aim to introduce post-quantum signature instructions in January 2027. However, this is a development target, not a confirmed network activation date.

The initial upgrade focuses on transparent transactions, where roughly 70% of issued ZEC was held at the time of reporting. Shielded payments still require separate security measures.

The urgency increased after Ethereum researcher Justin Drake warned about potential cryptographic risks and called for the industry to prepare for “bunker mode.” However, no practical attack capable of breaking crypto wallet keys has been demonstrated.

For Zcash, the key question is whether developers can turn their security roadmap into a working upgrade without weakening privacy or disrupting payments.

I’m watching implementation progress and network adoption rather than treating security headlines as an automatic bullish signal for $ZEC .

Stronger security could support long-term confidence, but execution matters more than promises. As always, manage risk and avoid trading on fear alone.
