🚨 Could Quantum Computing Become a Threat to Bitcoin in the Future?

Around 4.33 million $BTC are held in reused Bitcoin addresses, accounting for roughly 21.5% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply, according to Glassnode data reported on October 8.

The main concern is what happens when quantum computing becomes more advanced. Reusing a Bitcoin address can expose its public key on the blockchain, potentially creating a security risk if future quantum computers become powerful enough to break today’s cryptography.

The bigger picture is even more interesting. Around 6.26 million $BTC, or approximately 31.2% of the total supply, have exposed public keys, including coins linked to older address types.

⚠️ This doesn’t mean Bitcoin is in danger today. Current quantum computers cannot break Bitcoin’s security at this scale.

Still, this is something the crypto community cannot ignore. Preparing for future threats now could help protect Bitcoin and its holders in the long run.
