₿ Bitcoin Life Insurance Is Gaining Institutional Attention
Bitcoin is moving into another corner of traditional finance: life insurance.
Meanwhile, a Bermuda-based life insurer built around Bitcoin has raised $37.5 million in fresh funding from existing investors. Bain Capital Crypto led the round, with participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, and Morgan Creek Digital.
The company has now raised more than $180 million in total, while reports put its valuation at approximately $350 million.
🔹 What’s driving the interest?
Meanwhile is targeting wealthy families looking to incorporate Bitcoin into long-term wealth and inheritance planning. The company has signed 15 brokers serving clients in financial hubs including Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE, and Switzerland.
Its BTC Life 1-Pay product allows eligible clients outside the US to pay a single premium in Bitcoin in exchange for a death benefit denominated in Bitcoin.
Policyholders may also be able to borrow against up to 90% of the policy’s value after the first year, subject to the product’s terms.
🔹 Why does it matter?
For some investors, Bitcoin is no longer just a trading asset. It is becoming part of a broader conversation about preserving and transferring wealth across generations.
Bitcoin-denominated insurance could offer another way to structure that transfer. However, the actual tax treatment depends on the policy, the jurisdiction, and the individual’s circumstances. Regulatory oversight also does not eliminate investment or insurer-related risks.
Meanwhile’s reported underwriting income growth is another development worth monitoring as Bitcoin-native financial products seek a place in traditional wealth management.
The bigger question: Can Bitcoin-based insurance expand beyond wealthy early adopters, or will regulatory complexity, volatility, and limited accessibility keep it a niche market?
