⚔️ THE 21 RULES OF A SAMURAI — MIYAMOTO MUSASHI❗🥷

Written near the end of his life, Musashi’s Dokkōdō is a philosophy built around discipline, detachment and staying on your path.

1️⃣ Accept reality as it is.
2️⃣ Don’t chase pleasure for its own sake.
3️⃣ Don’t be ruled by temporary feelings.
4️⃣ Think less of yourself and more deeply about the world.
5️⃣ Remain detached from desire.
6️⃣ Don’t regret your past actions.
7️⃣ Never be jealous.
8️⃣ Don’t let separation destroy your peace.
9️⃣ Avoid resentment and pointless complaints.
🔟 Don’t let lust or love control you.
1️⃣1️⃣ Avoid unnecessary preferences.
1️⃣2️⃣ Be indifferent to where you live.
1️⃣3️⃣ Don’t become obsessed with food.
1️⃣4️⃣ Let go of possessions you no longer need.
1️⃣5️⃣ Don’t blindly follow tradition.
1️⃣6️⃣ Train only in what is useful.
1️⃣7️⃣ Don’t fear death.
1️⃣8️⃣ Don’t obsess over wealth or status in old age.
1️⃣9️⃣ Respect the divine, but don’t depend on it.
2️⃣0️⃣ Protect your honour above your own comfort.
2️⃣1️⃣ Never stray from your path.

The final principle may be the hardest:

Never stray from the way.

Discipline is doing what you decided to do, even when your feelings tell you otherwise.
