Here's a question I think DeFi should ask more often:
What is a stablecoin actually worth?
The easiest answer is:
“Whatever the market says.”
But that can become complicated when liquidity is thin or markets become stressed.
A reserve-backed stablecoin has another reference point:
What are the assets backing it worth?
That's where DIA's Proof of Reserves and fundamental pricing approach caught my attention.
For tGBP, DIA Value uses aggregated GBP reserves and onchain supply to produce a reserve-backed valuation rather than simply following a secondary-market print.
For River's satUSD+, $DIA uses the vault's redemption rate through a Contract Exchange Rate feed.
So there are effectively two different questions:
Market price: What are people paying right now?
Fundamental value: What does the underlying collateral or redemption mechanism indicate?
Neither question is universally sufficient for every asset.
That's why I find methodology more interesting than simply asking which oracle has more feeds.
For stablecoin infrastructure, the way value is calculated can be just as important as the data itself.
