$BTC is testing $70K again — and this time, the market structure matters more than the headline.
Bitcoin reached roughly $69.7K on August 20, breaking out of a six-week consolidation. The move followed Wednesday’s powerful rally, when more than $1B in short positions were liquidated in a few hours. That tells me the breakout had a strong short-squeeze component, so confirmation is still important.
The immediate battle is around $70K. Holding this area after a retest would strengthen the breakout structure, while rejection would show that sellers are still defending the level. The next major upside reference is around $71.3K–$71.5K, where technical resistance and the 200-day EMA converge.
Derivatives are constructive but deserve caution. BTC futures open interest has climbed to roughly $51.4B, while funding remains positive but not extreme. More leverage means stronger participation — and potentially sharper volatility.
My take: I’m bullish, but I want confirmation, not a chase. A clean hold above $70K with sustained buying would make this breakout much more convincing.
